About Malahat

Malahat is the gateway between Greater Victoria and the Cowichan Valley — the district at the top of the famous Malahat Drive summit, where Highway 1 climbs above the Saanich Inlet to some of the most dramatic ocean-and-mountain views on southern Vancouver Island. As its own VREB region, Malahat takes in the small communities strung along the inlet's western shore and the highlands above it. Malahat Proper, the area closest to the summit, is defined by private oceanview acreages and forested estates perched above Finlayson Arm, prized for panoramic vistas across to the Saanich Peninsula, the Gulf Islands, and Mount Baker. It's a small, tightly-held market — just a handful of active listings at any time — drawing buyers who want seclusion, dramatic scenery, and large parcels within a 30-minute drive of Langford and Victoria. The trade-offs are real: this is rural living on wells and septic, the Malahat Drive commute can be weather- and traffic-sensitive, and inventory is thin enough that the right property is worth waiting for. For buyers chasing a view and acreage over walkable convenience, nothing in the region delivers quite like it.
